The summer 2008 mega-project. Work still in progress.Posted by: Greg Parker in Hyperstar and SXVF-M25CAs you are all aware - we didn’t have a summer this year, so the “summer” mega-project for 2008 has been making incredibly slow progress. I managed to get out on the evening of 19th September to grab 3 more hours of RGB on the central North America [NGC7000] region, and last night [20th September 2008] I got another 3 hours of RGB on the Gulf of Mexico area. The Crescent nebula NGC6888 in Cygnus with the Hyperstar IIIPosted by: Greg Parker in Hyperstar and SXVF-M25CNoel has just put the finishing touches on the latest acquisition from the New Forest Observatory. This time it is the Crescent nebula region in Cygnus, and this represents just under 4-hours worth of H-alpha data, together with 2 and a half hours of one-shot (RGB) colour. (more…)

Latest Hyperstar III image - the Cocoon nebula IC5146Posted by: Greg Parker in Hyperstar and SXVF-M25CNoel has just processed the latest data taken using the Hyperstar III. This time we have just under 3-hours total exposure time on the Cocoon nebula. (more…) Work the next day, so of course Sunday 27th July was perhaps the best summer’s night I’ve ever seen from this location for imaging. O.K. so it’s headache day for Monday! Started imaging this one at around 11.00 p.m. and finished around 2.00 a.m. The Scutum star cloud stood out brightly against an already bright Milky Way - unbelievable! And as I finished imaging the Moon just started to pop up over my NE horizon - a perfect night’s imaging (very unusual!).

Globular cluster M71 with an accompanying little open cluster [OCL116, Harvard20] and Gamma Sagitta in the top left hand corner. Throughout the whole field of view is a Milky Way backdrop. Enjoy the trip!

M39 open cluster in Cygnus - second lightPosted by: Greg Parker in Hyperstar and SXVF-M25CWell I did manage to get out on the evening of the 20th, even though it was work the next day, and I spent a couple of hours imaging the beautiful open cluster M39 in Cygnus. (more…)

Starizona FeatherTouch autofocuser first lightPosted by: Greg Parker in Articles, Hyperstar and SXVF-M25CI had a two-hour, cloud-free slot last night between 11.00 p.m. and 1.00 a.m. Bound to be clear with a blazing (full?) Moon trundling along the southern horizon. O.K. so not a good night for imaging, but it did give me my first chance at firing up the Starizona autofocusing setup for the FeatherTouch focuser. Learn from my experience. (more…) A higher resolution version of the first light NGC7000 image taken on the version III Hyperstar can now be viewed on Starizona’s Hyperstar Imaging Site. |
