I often check to see how Star Vistas is doing on Amazon.co.uk and got a bit of surprise when I just got in from walking the dog over the forest. I have the number 1 and 2 slots in the “Popular Astronomy” section of Amazon U.K. the number 1 slot being “Making Beautiful Deep-Sky Images” and the number 2 slot “Star Vistas” co-authored with Noel Carboni. If someone has been doing a bit of bulk ordering – thank you – or, on the other hand, if this is just a bump in sales (ready for Christmas?) – then thank you again

Just done a lightning round trip to Bristol to pick up the Star Vistas images from the PhotoGallery. Many thanks to Jamie and team for organising this one. They had a book full of visitors over the exhibition opening period from 22nd October – 3rd November. Just to remind you that the Star Vistas deep-sky images Exhibition opens at the Photo Gallery in Bristol tomorrow evening. I will give a PowerPoint presentation on the work carried out at the New Forest Observatory over the past 6 years at some point during the proceedings. There will be only 4 signed copies of Star Vistas (the book) available for sale – so if you’d like one of these I suggest you move quickly on the night. If you bring your own copy of Star Vistas I am happy to sign it on the night So that’s it – opening tomorrow evening and runs until November 3rd 2010 – hope to see you there.

Try Best Bargain Books (States) on Amazon. Look under “new” and you will find Star Vistas for around £6 with just over a couple of quid for postage from the States – amazing value for money. Looks like they limit you to only 5 books though as I put in an order for 10 and they automatically cut it back to 5. Never mind – just get all your friends and family to buy 5 as well for you

IC405 the Flaming Star nebula – reloaded

Noel Carboni has just re-processed an earlier image of ours – IC405 & IC410, the Flaming Star nebula and companion in the constellation Auriga. Auriga is sitting overhead right now during our crisp winter evenings and it is in a perfect position for imaging the many clusters & nebulae that lie within. This image features in our Springer publication “Star Vistas” published Spring 2009.
