Photographic exposures from 9-millionths of a second to 3-months

I just spent the day at Tony Allen’s photographic studio in Oxford with my high speed flash units.  We had another go at the water-filled balloons as they are so much fun.  Here’s a result from today’s efforts.

This exposure with the HSF units is only 9-microseconds long.  Compare that with the 3-month exposure I am taking with the pinhole cameras bolted to the side of my house 🙂

Fantastic Images Greg, just wondering if you’d seen this as well, impressive stuff, wouldn’t like to know how much it costs! http://www.kurzzeit.com/kameras.htm

    Hi Daniel,

I haven’t seen that camera before, and although the frame rate is very impressive, the resolution isn’t – neither is the ability to store only 100 frames – at the 1,000,000 fps that only gives you 100 microseconds of video, not much 🙁 Having said that, it is still amazing technology – you would need to highly illuminate the area you were video recording with a very stable light sourse as well. I know that high speed video cameras with higher resolution, but much lower frame rate go for around £50,000 – so what this one costs I’d hate to guess 🙂
