A Perseid from my Sodium light-polluted back-garden in Brockenhurst from early this morning

Testing out my all-sky imaging rig ready for next week’s maximum in the Perseid meteor shower.  AstroTrac, Canon 5D MkII camera, Canon 15mm fish-eye lens and Canon electronic shutter controller.  You might just make out a faint Perseid bottom left in this image.

I intend taking the rig over to a dark spot in the Forest next week provided we get the clear skies.

    Hi Greg
    I’d be interested to know what exposure oyu used here. I too have an Astrotrac and plan on using my DSLR to capture some Perseids.
    Our Astro Club are planning a StarBQ followed by a Perseids watch. We plan to have video as well as DSLRs monitoring the sky. A trade off between resolution and depth I imagine.

    Hi Nigel,

    I used 1-minute at ISO 1600 and f#3.2 when I go to the dark site I will use ISO 800 and may even go up one in the f# as well.

    As for the rant – I think more people than I gave credit for (given the feedback) do realise what is happening – but for some reason the Brits feel powerless to do anything about it. Now the French on the other hand ………. :) :)
