The mighty Hyperstar – reloaded!
I have just returned from a business trip to Arizona, and Arizona can only mean one thing for astro-imagers – Starizona!! Whilst staying in Phoenix, Dean of Starizona shipped me the latest (adjustable!) Hyperstar for the C11 and an electonic … Continue reading

Widefield image of the Lynx quasar complete with background galaxies:
Noel has just completed processing a widefield image of the region in which the quasar APM08279+5255 resides. The image is composed of 28 sub-exposures using an exposure time of 6-minutes per sub. This object used to hold the record as … Continue reading
IC443 the Jellyfish nebula complete with extra H-alpha.
Noel completed Star Vistas late last night, and this was the final image to be prepared for publication. This is IC443 the Jellyfish nebula, and IC444 is the large emission nebula (which also contains a reflection nebula and a very … Continue reading
IC1805 the Heart Nebula in Cassiopeia
Noel Carboni is putting the finishing touches to Star Vistas as this post goes out, and he created this deep-space masterpiece from a collection of old NFO data. The appropriately named Heart Nebula is a favourite target for Northern-Hemisphere amateur astroimagers.
La Superba
A couple of weeks ago I imaged La Superba – a carbon star in Canes Venatici. This is only 11 subs at 6-minutes per sub, but you can just make out a few interesting faint fuzzies in the background. I … Continue reading
IOM April 2008: Markarian’s Chain
Spring is galaxy season in the imager’s diary, and for my April imaging object of the month I am choosing not a single galaxy, but a whole chain of galaxies, Markarian’s Chain at the border of the constellations Virgo and … Continue reading

The Veil nebula – reloaded
Noel reprocessed the Veil nebula data making the stars less obtrusive and sharpening up the nebulosity a little to emphasize the filaments. It’s a personal choice as to which version you prefer – I like the down-played stars myself.
The Veil nebula in Cygnus – a supernova remnant
Today is a landmark day for the New Forest Observatory. After a marathon processing session involving a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and a hallucination-inducing lack of sleep – Noel Carboni has just finished processing the Summer 2007 mega-project, the … Continue reading
The Rosette nebula in the infrared
The accompanying image shows the Rosette nebula in the infrared (720nm – 1,000nm) part of the spectrum. The image is composed of 7 subs at 1600 seconds per sub, just over 3-hours total exposure time – and – there’s virtually nothing … Continue reading
Abell 1367 galaxy cluster in Leo
The first image where I carried out multiple re-focuses during the imaging session was with this image of Abell 1367, a galaxy cluster in Leo. This image was taken on the night of Tuesday 4th March 2008 using the IDAS … Continue reading
